Jesus’ life was centered around suffering and then his death. But that isn’t the end, the story continues on. Through God’s Word, and the work of all Christian’s spreading the Word, we can all have the peace and joy God intended for each of us. Jesus died for each of us. Steve teaches us that we need to die in your old self, rise up, and be born again. NewarkCoC.org

When reading through the Gospel of Mark, you will encounter a secrecy factor. Early in Jesus’ ministry, even he kept quiet and asked others to remain quiet. Jesus was concerned that if word of his miracles and preachings spread to quickly, it could cause problems in completing his work. We learn two significant things in Mark about Jesus’ early ministry; Jesus’ family thought he was out of his mind, and the religious leaders of that time thought he was demon possessed. As we grow in our faith, we should strive to not be secret about our faith, but to spread the word of God to others. NewarkCoC.org

This is the most common passage in the bible that describes the Christmas story, the birth of our Lord and Savior. But thankfully the story of Christ doesn’t end there. Luke continues to describe Jesus’ life, His crucifixion, and then His resurrection. Thankfully we can all get to Heaven through Jesus Christ, by accepting him into our hearts. Hopefully you know this joy, not just today on Christmas, but everyday of your life. NewarkCoC.org

2011-12-20 - A Cosmic View of Christmas

The books of Matthew and Luke are the obvious choices for the reading the Christmas story, so this passage may confuse some as not your typical Christmas message. When we think of the birth of Jesus we think of the beginning of his life and the beginning of his ministry. In Revelation 12, we learn that with his birth, with his life, with his death, and with his exaltation, the end game has begun. Through Jesus, God wins, and through our faith, salvation, and baptism, we too can win with Christ on our side. What a wonderful Christmas message. NewarkCoC.org

Tyler’s sermon is entitled The Difference Prayer Makes. Tyler’s teaches us that there are four types of prayer, easily remembered by the prayer acronym ACTS. A is for adoration, C is for confession, T is for thanksgiving, and S is for supplication. Tyler’s message will concentrate on the fourth type, Supplication, which is making requests unto God. If we understand the various forms of prayer, we can pray more effectively. NewarkCoC.org

2011-11-27 - Walk in Love, Walk in Light

Are we up to the challenge of being the people that God has envisioned for us. If there is any hope for real love and caring in the world, it is us. If we don’t live as son’s and daughters of Christ, there is no hope. Christ died for us so that we can live the life that God intended for us to live. Will you walk in the light? NewarkCoC.org

Charles' sermon is entitled Temptation and comes from the book of Luke, chapter 4 versus 1 through 13. Our goal should always be to worship God, but the devil tempts us with anything he can dream up to lead us astray. Jesus was tempted three times by Satan, but chose to follow his heavenly fathers commandments instead. We should strive to have that same faith and perseverance when temptation enters our own lives. The audio for Charles sermon cut off 5 minutes prior to the end. We apologize for the inconvenience. NewarkCoC.org

2011-11-06 - Walk Worthy: dealing with anger

Have you ever been angry with someone? Oh come on now, we have ALL been angry at one point or another. Or maybe you knew someone was angry with you. Paul tells us it’s ok to be angry but you should sin not. How you deal with that anger speaks a lot about our Christian walk. Handling that anger in constructive ways is what God wants us to do. Each of us has problems, concerns, and things we need to share in order to feel better about ourselves, or to receive encouragement. Foyer talk is having that Christian attitude of being able to listen to others, and be the comforting friend that they need. It might even be a case that you are the one confiding in a fellow Christian about your own life. God wants us to be there for each other, whenever we are hurting or struggling and need a friend. In this message, we learn the power of prayer. Paul kneeled before God and prayed, always having the right heart when bringing his requests to God. Paul prays for power and love, two things that are essential in our lives. If you want to know how wide and how deep the love of Christ is, try standing on a mountaintop and look around at the awesomeness of God. In this experience, we are barely touching the love of Christ. NewarkCoC.org
